You’ve read exciting interviews with each of our Cycling4Burundi team members! You’ve seen what bicycles mean to everyday life in different parts of Burundi! And starting tomorrow, the time has finally come for the Feature Presentation. Without further ado, we bring you, the start of RAGBRAI! That’s right, the team’s 7-day adventure ride across 428.1 miles (reminder, that’s an average of 61.16 miles per day) of beautiful Iowan landscape is about to begin, starting in Denison, IA. Watch as this team of almost purely amateur cyclists takes on this nearly impossible feat!
There’s no words we can say that Dr. Seuss hasn’t said better (except for the few parts we changed to show our BFI, RAGBRAI, and Iowa spirit), so to our Cycling4Burundi Team, ‘Oh, the Iowan Places You’ll Go!’
Today is your day.
You’re off to Great Iowan Places!
You’re off and away!
You’ll be on your way up!
You’ll be seeing great cornfield sights!
You’ll join the high fliers
Who soar to high heights.
You won’t lag behind, because you’ll have the speed.
You’ll pass the whole gang and you’ll soon take the lead.
Oh, the places you’ll go!
There is fun in Denison to be done!
There are points to be scored
There are games to be won.
It’s opener there in the wide open air.
Out there things can happen and frequently do
To people as brainy and footsy as you.
..On to Jefferson you will go
Though the weather be foul
On you will go though your enemies prowl
On you will go though the Hakken-Kraks Hawkeyes howl
Onward up many a frightening Ames creek
Though your arms may get sore and your sneakers may leak
On and on you will bike, and I know you’ll bike far
And face up to your problems in Newton, whatever they are.
You’ll get mixed up, of course, as you already know.
You’ll get mixed up with many strange Sigourney riders as you go.
So be sure when you step in Iowa City.
Step with care and great tact
And remember that RAGBRAI’s a Great Balancing Act.
Just never forget to be dexterous and deft.
And never mix up your right foot with your left.
And will you succeed? Yes! You will, indeed! (98 and 3 / 4 percent in Davenport guaranteed.)
KID, YOU’LL MOVE MOUNTAINS! So… be your name Fabrice, Krista, Doug, Jane, Tom, or Julay
You’re off to Great Places! Today is your day!
Your 428.1 miles are waiting. So…get on your way!
**Denison, Jefferson, Ames, Newton, Sigourney, Iowa City, and Davenport are all host cities where riders share community and rest each night along the RAGBRAI route.**
Our Cycling4Burundi team is full of heroes and sheroes. You can be a s/hero too! We’ve only reached 10% of our fundraising goal for RAGBRAI. Help send us to the Places We’ll Go by making a tax-deductible donation today: https://www.classy.org/campaign/cycling4burundi/c191396.
