Hot off the press! RAGBRAI Day 4 finished and the team’s still groovin’! With today’s 59-mile wild ride from Ames to Newton, we’ve reached the halfway point of our journey. That means if you have yet to donate to help us reach our $50k goal for RAGBRAI, now is seriously the time: https://www.classy.org/campaign/cycling4burundi/c191396. (As of today, we’ve only reached 12% of our goal. Help us ride across the finish line!)
Our Cycling4Burundi team is ready to party like it’s 1989 – the year when Field of Dreams, the classic Kevin Costner film that takes place in the cornfields of Iowa, was released. Main character Ray Kinsella hears the infamous voice tell him “If you build it, he will come.” And today’s ride is all about taking the dreams from RAGBRAI and building them in Burundi. The reason our 6 Cycling4Burundi team members are riding 428.1 grueling miles in the heat and humidity is simple: “If you build Burundi, Education will come.”
Remember the part in the movie where no one knows whether they’re in heaven or Iowa? Wait that really happens?! True story. We’ll revive it for you here:
John Kinsella: Is this heaven?
Ray Kinsella: It’s Iowa.
John Kinsella: Iowa? I could have sworn this was heaven.
Ray Kinsella: Is there a heaven?
John Kinsella: Oh yeah. It’s the place where dreams come true.
Ray Kinsella: Maybe this is heaven.
With your help, Burundi can be the place where dreams come true! Help BFI build Fields of Dreams today. Match the teams 59-miler with a $59 donation, and help send an English Curriculum Trainer to Burundi: https://www.classy.org/campaign/cycling4burundi/c191396. Don’t forget, “If you build Burundi, Education will come.”
Today we leave you with a quote from Field of Dreams. It highlights the urgency with which Burundians can’t wait, and need our support now: “You know, we just don’t recognize the most significant moments of our lives while they’re happening. Back then I thought, well, there’ll be other days. I didn’t realize that that was the only day.” Today is the day to show your unwavering support for Burundi!
